Another piece of Good news for Spurs

Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sends Suns’ Kevin Durant To Spurs

Spurs - The official site of the NBA for the latest NBA Scores, Stats & News. | NBA.com

One NBA writer proposed that the San Antonio Spurs acquire Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Spurs and Suns:

The Deal: Kevin Durant for Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins, a 2025 first-round pick (via Atlanta), a 2027 first-round pick (via Atlanta), a 2029 first-round pick and a 2030 first-round pick (via Dallas)

The Suns got swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2024 playoffs after going 49-33 during the regular season.

According to NBA reporters Shams Charania and Doug Haller of The Athletic, Durant never felt comfortable with his role in the Suns‘ offense alongside Devin Booker and Bradley Beal this season.

“If Phoenix made him available, some teams might even try to swoop in with lowball offers including just a couple picks,” Bailey wrote. “The San Antonio Spurs, thanks to a pool of assets comparable to Utah’s, are a team that could justify unloading more for a post-prime perimeter player like the 14-time All-Star. And the idea of pairing him with Victor Wembanyama, who in some ways feels like the next link in basketball’s evolutionary chain after Durant, is pretty intriguing.

“Even at Durant’s advanced age, he and Wemby would still be one of the game’s best one-two punches in 2024-25. Having those two and Devin Vassell would give the team incomparable defensive length too.”

Durant averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists during the regular season while shooting 52.3% from the field, 41.3% from beyond the arc and 85.6% from the free-throw line. The NBA icon was seventh in the league in points and fifth in points per game.

Durant will make $49.9 million next season and $53.3 million in 2025-26. He requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets last season and wanted to get traded to the Suns, who lost to the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2023 postseason in six games.

The Spurs could be title contenders with Durant and Wembanyama leading the way. Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.6 blocks this season while shooting 46.5% from the field, 32.5% from 3 and 79.6% from the free-throw line. He led the NBA in blocks and blocks per game.
