Two Duke Basketball Players Out With Injury Against Charlotte

Duke basketball is without the services of one starter and one reserve.

A pair of Duke basketball sophomores, starting guard Tyrese Proctor and reserve center Christian Reeves, is out of commission for the 22nd-ranked Blue Devils (5-3, 0-1 ACC) against the visiting Charlotte 49ers (5-3, 0-0 AAC) in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. ET (The CW).

Proctor, averaging 10.3 points and 4.5 assists per game as the team’s full-time floor general, sustained a sprained ankle in the first half of Duke’s road loss to Georgia Tech last Saturday.

Roughly 45 minutes before tipoff, the program’s official social media account reported that Reeves is also out with an ankle injury. The 7-foot-1, 260-pound former three-star recruit is averaging 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds. He’s played sparingly in only three contests this year after seeing limited action in only 16 outings as a freshman.

The Blue Devils look to bounce back from back-to-back losses at Arkansas and Georgia Tech and avoid becoming the first Duke basketball squad since 1982-83 to tally four losses before Christmas.

Second-year head coach Jon Scheyer is going with freshman guard Caleb Foster to replace Proctor in starting lineup, alongside freshman guard Jared McCain, senior guard Jeremy Roach, sophomore forward Mark Mitchell, and sophomore forward Kyle Filipowski.

Following the bout with the 49ers, the Blue Devils will gear up to host Hofstra on Tuesday night before preparing for a showdown with No. 6 Baylor in New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Dec. 20.
