SAD NEWS: Badgers confirms departure of two players

Where could former Badgers Braelon Allen and Tanor Bortolini go in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Could the Badgers see two of their players drafted on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft?

The Wisconsin Badgers had several players who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, with offensive lineman Tanor Bortolini and running back Braelon Allen serving as the top players available.

Bortolini, a redshirt junior in 2023, profiles as an interior offensive lineman, while Allen is looking to be one of the top running backs off the board, declaring after his true junior season as a 19-year-old.

Where could the two players ultimately end up in the 2024 NFL Draft?

RB Braelon Allen

Allen had a successful career at Wisconsin, accumulating multiple 1,000-yard seasons, while recording 35 rushing touchdowns during his career.

He declared in one of the weaker running back classes in recent memory, where not a single player at the position was selected in the first round.

However, the run on backs is expected to begin in the second round, with many having Texas’s Jonathan Brooks as the top available running back in the class.

While Allen has questions about his film, which may take him off the boards of certain teams, his playstyle will appeal to certain teams, and he’s expected to be off the board by Day 2.

A selection within the late second round could occur, but Allen is likelier to end up as a third-round pick on Friday, as teams such as the Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, and Los Angeles Chargers are all looking to fill a need at the position.

Allen could slide out of the third round altogether, but the expectation is that he’ll be gone by Day 2.

NFL: Combine

IOL Tanor Bortolini

Tanor Bortolini has skyrocketed during the draft process, with his athletic testing ranking among the top offensive linemen in the class at the 2024 NFL Combine.

Bortolini is an underrated talent whose size may relegate him to center at the next level, although teams have also shown interest in him potentially playing guard as well. The former Badgers offensive lineman was versatile in college, having played all three line spots at some point.

The expectation is that Bortolini will be selected between the third and fourth rounds, which is the case for a number of centers looking to hear their name called, and he’ll best fit a zone-based system where he can get out to the second level and utilize that heralded athleticism.

Overall, there is a chance that both Badgers could ultimately hear their names called by the end of Friday.
