Wisconsin Guard Connor Essegian has transferred to Nebraska

Nebrasketball has picked up another transfer out of the portal as Wisconsin guard Connor Essegian becomes a Husker.

Essegian played for Wisconsin the past two seasons, averaging 27.3 minutes per game in 2022-23 and scoring 11.7 points per game. That year he was named to the All-Big Ten freshman team, shooting 35% from three.

Last season he averaged only around 7 minutes per game and his scoring dropped to 3.2 minutes per game. His average from three dropped to just around 30%. He dealt with a back injury last season.

Obviously Fred Hoiberg and staff see something in him, no doubt bringing him to our beloved Huskers as someone has to replace production lost as Keisei Tominaga and CJ Wilcher will no longer be around next season.

Essegian chose Nebraska over Maryland, South Carolina and Indiana. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Nebraska fans should remember Essegian as he scored 12 points in Wisconsin’s 88-72 bashing of our beloved Huskers last January. He hit 4 of 7 from 3-point range off the bench in that game, snapping the Husker five-game win streak.

Essegian is the fourth player Nebraska has picked up from the portal. Others including Rutgers’ Gavin Griffiths, North Dakota State’s Andrew Morgan and Utah point guard Rollie Worster.
