West Brom: Andreas Weimann’s return becomes a possibility as an update surfaces.
West Bromwich Albion are considering providing former loanee Andreas Weimann a permanent contract at the Hawthorns this summer, according to TalkSport’s Alex Crook.
The Austrian international is a free agent after his contract with Bristol City expired last month. He spent the second half of the 23/24 season at the Hawthorns.
The 32-year-old scored twice in 12 league games for the Baggies during that period, and came on as a late substitute as the Midlands club fell to Southampton in the Championship playoff semi-finals.
Crook goes on to state that Weimann is attracting interest from all around Europe this summer, with Italian side Udinese and Austrian club Strum Graz keeping an eye on him.
Andreas Weimann could return to West Bromwich Albion following his loan spell with the Baggies.
Weimann began his career in England at Aston Villa before moving to Bristol City from Derby County in 2018, where he went on to make over 200 appearances.
However, because it was revealed earlier this season that the frontman’s contract included an extension that would be triggered based on games played for City, a move to the Baggies appeared to benefit all sides.
The Austrian appeared to settle quite quickly at the Hawthorns, scoring the winner against local rivals Birmingham City in front of his new home fans in only his second game for the club.
Another late goal as a replacement sealed a 2-0 win over Cardiff City later in the month, as the former Watford loanee continued to establish himself as a strong Championship performer during his stay in the Black Country.
The striker has expressed his desire that his performances for Carlos Corberan’s side will lead to a contract at the Hawthorns in the future, and as the season progresses, that dream may become a reality.
Weimann told German outlet Kicker (via Sports Witness): “I still have several crucial games ahead of me at West Brom, and I’m working towards a big objective with them.
“There is still a lot at stake. I’m free in the summer, but now I’m completely focused on my mission at West Bromwich, which is to make the playoffs and possibly get promoted.
If everything goes well, they might offer me a contract; if not, it doesn’t look too horrible that I might wind up with another team competing for promotion again.
“I feel no tension or strain. I’m loving the idea that we’re playing for something now, and we’ll see what happens throughout the summer.
