Max Muncy breaks MLB postseason record for consecutive times reaching base
Muncy got on base in 12 straight plate appearances
Dodgers infielder Max Muncy walked in each of his first three plate appearances then singled in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Mets on Thursday night at Citi Field. That gave him 12 straight times reaching base, a major league record for a single postseason.
It all started with a solo home run in the fifth inning in Game 2 at Dodger Stadium, giving the Dodgers their first run on Monday. He walked in each of his final two trips to the plate in that game.
In Game 3, Muncy tied a Dodgers record by reaching base five times, with three walks, a single, and a home run, the latter tying Muncy for the all-time franchise lead with 13 postseason homers.
“He really controls the zone well,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters at Citi Field earlier Thursday. “Last night was a clinic in how you conduct at-bats. I don’t think he swung at a ball all last night, which is pretty remarkable.”
