JUST IN: LSU Tigers Star Ruled out of the season.
LSU left-handed pitcher Nate Ackenhausen suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday’s game against Auburn but it is not serious, coach Jay Johnson said after LSU’s 3-2 win.
“I think he’s going to be okay,” Johnson said. “He had a big smile on his face in there and an ice pack on his leg.”
Ackenhausen suffered the injury in the ninth inning with two out and the score tied at two. He had just allowed a two-out single having thrown 1⅓ scoreless innings.
He fell behind in the count 2-0 before asking for Johnson and LSU athletic trainer Isaac Trujillo to meet with him on the mound. Ackenhausen threw a couple warmup pitches to test his injury but ended up exiting the game for right-hander Thatcher Hurd.
“He probably could have stayed in the game,” Johnson said. “He just didn’t like the way he was moving down the mound.”
Hurd threw one pitch to end the inning, forcing a flyout to left field. LSU then won the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out walk-off single from Josh Pearson.
This isn’t the first injury Ackenhausen has dealt with at LSU. Last season he also battled through a hamstring injury that limited him during Southeastern Conference play.
LSU will try to earn its first sweep in SEC play on Sunday when it faces Auburn for Game 3 of their series at Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. and can be streamed on SEC Network+.
