As of January 16, 2025, reports indicate that Japanese pitching sensation Roki Sasaki has not signed a contract extension with the New York Mets. In fact, the Mets have been informed that they are no longer in contention for Sasaki’s services.

 

Sasaki, a 23-year-old right-hander renowned for his 102 mph fastball and devastating splitter, was posted by Nippon Professional Baseball’s Chiba Lotte Marines in November 2024, making him available to Major League Baseball (MLB) teams. Since then, he has engaged in discussions with several MLB teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays. Speculation suggests that Sasaki may be leaning towards joining the Dodgers, potentially to play alongside fellow Japanese stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

 

Given these developments, there is no confirmation of a $305 million contract extension between Roki Sasaki and the New York Mets. As the January 23 deadline for his posting period approaches, the baseball world eagerly awaits Sasaki’s decision on where he will begin his MLB career.
