Former High Point men’s basketball star John Brown III signed with the Crveba Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade this past weekend. Brown III spent the past three years playing in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with Monaco and UNICS before suffering a shoulder injury during the EuroLeague Playoffs in April of 2024.
Since being medically cleared, Brown III could make his season debut with Crveba Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade this weekend versus Olympiacos on Friday. Last season, Brown III played in 33 games for Monaco, averaging 5.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 offensive rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 25 minutes per game.
Brown III played all four seasons at High Point and graduated in 2016. To this day, Brown III is HPU’s All-Time leading scorer with 2,229 points and is just one of four players in the Big South to join the 2,000 points + 500 rebounds club. He was a 2x AP All-American, named to the Basketball Times All-Mid-Major team, a Julius Erving Award Watch List recipient, a 4x NABC All-District team selection, named a 2x Mid-Major All-American, a Lou Henson Award Finalist, named to the CollegeInsider All-Decade team. In the Big South he was named a 2x Big South Player of the Year, the Big South Defensive Player of the Year, the Big South Freshman of the Year, a 4x Big South All-Conference selection and a 3x Big South Preseason Player of the Year.
