Shultz in the final term was seen retaliating to a push from Acres behind the play, raising his arm to the winger’s neck, and ultimately penalised for the act.
The Match Review Officer (MRO) Michael Christian graded the incident as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, constituting a week off for the former Docker.
Veteran AFL reporter Jon Ralph described the incident as an “old-fashioned rabbit punch” on Fox Footy.
“You’d normally think that’s not too bad but as we’ve seen in the last seven or eight days, Mabior Chol on Errol Gulden, anything that is a fend behind play becomes (graded as) intentional now.”
If the Pies elect not to challenge the ban, Shultz will miss the Round 9 clash with West Coast at Marvel Stadium, joining fellow pressure forward Beau McCreery (concussion) on the sidelines.
The MRO also handed $1,875 ($1,250 early plea) down fines to Scott Pendlebury and Adam Cerra for careless conduct with an umpire.
Collingwood have returned to form, notching up their fourth win from their last five games, adding a draw to that mix.
As for Carlton, they have suffered their second consecutive defeat and currently sit seventh on the ladder with an upcoming clash against Melbourne.
