Stefanos and Petros Tsitsipas have been hit with fines totalling £18,000 ($23,000) after crashing out of the French Open.

Stefanos reached the quarter-finals in both singles and doubles, teaming up with his younger brother for the latter.

And the pair received five code violations – all for coaching – across three different matches, with each warning carrying a fine.

Although coaching from the stands is now permitted, the Tsitsipas brothers still received infractions for communicating with a coach in a way that isn’t allowed. Stefanos and Petros each received a £1,900 ($2,500) fine for their second-round doubles match, when they beat defending champions Austin Krajicek and Ivan Dodig.

The singles world No. 9 then received a £6,300 ($8,000) penalty for another coaching violation during his quarter-final against Carlos Alcaraz, which he lost in straight sets. And both brothers received another bill for their third-round doubles match.

On that occasion, they were fined £3,900 ($5,000) each. They won the match but lost in the next round to eventual champions Mate Pavic and Marcelo Arevalo.

It’s not the first time that Stefanos Tsitsipas has gotten into trouble for coaching violations. When no communication was allowed, his dad’s chattering famously led to a blow-up in the 2022 Australian Open semi-final.

The 25-year-old was facing Daniil Medvedvev, who screamed at the umpire when he claimed that Apostolos Tsitsipas was coaching his son from his box. It sparked a bizarre sting operation, with a Greek-speaking official sitting underneath the stands to listen in.
