LSU cornerback Javien Toviano is back with team after arrest for alleged video voyeurism
LSU sophomore cornerback Javien Toviano has rejoined the team after being suspended following a July arrest.
Toviano was “reinstated by the university,” LSU coach Brian Kelly said, and he was present at the team’s first practice Thursday morning.
“He’s back in football activities, and we’ll kind of get him going again back in the mix,” Kelly said. “Obviously, he’ll be a competitive player for us. He played for us last year. We’ll get him going as he works through his legal matters.”
Toviano, 19, turned himself into authorities July 21 after being accused of video voyeurism. He allegedly recorded himself having sex with a woman without her consent, according to the arrest warrant.
The woman told detectives she found videos of the two on Toviano’s iPad that were recorded on a clock with a built-in camera placed near the bed. She also told detectives that Toviano had recorded them having sex in the past without her consent and she told him she did not want to be recorded.
In an interview with detectives, Toviano admitted to using a hidden camera inside the clock to record the sexual encounters, the arrest warrant says.
Toviano was “suspended from all team activities, in accordance with departmental policies,” LSU said in a statement after the arrest.
A top 100 recruit in the 2023 class, Toviano played in every game and made three starts as a freshman. He recorded 33 tackles and one pass breakup.
