SAD NEWS: Wisconsin Badgers’ top talent has entered the transfer portal.
Wisconsin added to their roster this week with the news that Missouri transfer John Tonje has committed to the program. The former Tiger had committed to New Mexico after entering the portal before flipping over to the Badgers.
The 6’6” guard spent his first four seasons with Colorado State, mainly as a reserve until starting his senior season. That year saw Tonje average career highs with 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting just under 39% from three. He transferred to Missouri where he only played in eight games, starting four, due to a foot injury. In a limited capacity he averaged 2.6 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. As Tonje only played in eight games he effectively used his redshirt year, opening the door for one more season of eligibility.
Tonje was set to play next season for New Mexico before the Badgers offered the guard.
“His five years of experience and production at a high level will be extremely valuable to our program,” Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard said. Gard has been all over the transfer portal recently, with Tonje joining Central Arkansas transfer Camren Hunter and Northern Illinois transfer Xavier Amos. Wisconsin has been forced to the portal after a run of the departures, including star guard A.J. Storr.
