Sad News: New Orleans Saints Comfirm Departure of three key players due to….
The preseason can go a long way in telling teams what players are suited to make the 53-man roster. This was evident for the New Orleans Saints, as there were a couple of guys who were thought to have a chance to make the roster, but had underwhelming preseasons. Unfortunately for them, their preseason performances may keep them off the regular-season roster.
Here are 3 players who the Saints will likely cut after an underwhelming preseason.
The 6-foot-7 tight end was thought to have a chance to make the roster due to his blocking abilities and the opportunity to make big catches. His chances of making the roster e looked really good when Juwan Johnson went down with an injury. However, Jacobson didn’t have a stellar preseason and was outshined by undrafted free agent Dallin Holker.
His subpar performance will most likely leave him off the roster. It’s not over for Jacobson as the practice squad is still a real possibility, as it is for all the players who will be waived
The Saints love backup offensive lineman who are able to play more than one position. In the past couple of years, they have had James Hurst, Calvin Throckmorton, and Lewis Kidd all fill that role. Now that none of them are on the roster, Shane Lemieux was thought to be able to fill in one of those positions.
He looked fine at guard but when he was moved to center, problems started occurring. This was seen in the San Francisco 49ers game where Lemieux just couldn’t seem to figure out how to snap the ball right to the quarterback. He can still improve, but his chances to make the initial roster are dwindling.
The backup receiver battle was ongoing throughout the entire preseason. Stanley Morgan Jr. wasn’t great and didn’t get his name out there in any of the games. He was outplayed by A.T. Perry , Equanimeous St. Brown, and Samson Nacua.
Special teams go a long way for the receiver position, and that was a big reason why he was brought in. However, Morgan didn’t make any standout plays to make his name known. It’s likely that the Saints go for a different receiver instead of Stanley Morgan Jr.
