Charlotte Hornets signing Moussa Diabate to a two-way deal

According to Adrian Wojanrowski, the Charlotte Hornets are signing big Moussa Diabate to a two-way contract.

Under a two-way contract, Diabate will spend most of his time with the Greensboro Swarm, but he’ll be available to suit up for the Hornets if the roster is riddled with injuries. But that would never happen to the Hornets.

As Woj mentions, Diabate was the 43rd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft after one season at Michigan. He had an okay season there but declared for the draft anyway, like most former five star high school recruits do. He landed with the Clippers, where he was never able to crack the rotation. He appeared in 33 games over those two seasons and averaged 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in mostly mop up duty.

He was more impactful in the G League, where he averaged a double double and generated about 3 steals+blocks per game. The Hornets will try to build off that foundation.

Diabate is still only 22 years old, so there’s hope that he can still develop into an NBA rotation player. The Hornets don’t have a ton of depth across their front line right now, so there’s a chance we’ll see Diabate here and there over the course of the season. Otherwise, he’ll try to make his name with the Swarm.

Diabate is the third of a maximum three two-way players on the roster. He joins second year pro Leaky Black and rookie second round pick KJ Simpson.
