Motherwell FC, Fleetwood Town and Salford City in race to sign 23-year old Ace
Salford City and Fleetwood Town have been named amongst the clubs interested in FC Halifax man Kane Thompson-Sommers, as per Football Insider.
Salford City and Fleetwood Town will both be competing in League Two next season.
The Ammies finished 20th in the fourth tier last time out capping off a bad season for the club. Meanwhile Fleetwood Town were relegated from League One finishing three points adrift of safety at the end of the campaign.
Both clubs will be competing directly against one another in competition next season, but they are also battling against each other for the signing of a non-league talent.
Thompson-Sommers, 23, played 31 National League games for FC Halifax last season. The central midfielder scored one goal in the fifth tier and was a big part of their play-off finish.
Before that he had a spell in the National League North with Hereford after coming through Birmingham City’s academy and featuring a little for their U18 and U23 sides.
Now, Salford City, Fleetwood Town, Sutton United and Motherwell are interested in signing the youngster this summer.
A testament to his quality
The fact he has several clubs chasing him really is credit to the year he has had.
The 23-year-old was one of the strongest midfielders in the National League last season and he now has a host of league clubs eyeing him up.
Motherwell in Scotland would be able to offer him top flight football north of the border and that may give them an edge. However, Salford City are still believed to be on a project which should see them climb higher in the divisions and they have been known in the past to be able to pull off big signings.
Making the right decision
At 23, it is important he goes somewhere where he will play consistently and be a big part of the manager’s plans.
He is yet to play a game of football higher than the fifth tier, so it may take some getting used to. But, the midfielder has shown all the right signs and once settled down he should adjust to League Two with ease.
This saga is one to keep an eye on as all four of the named clubs will be keen to pip one another to the signing of the 23-year-old this summer.
