SHOCKING: Sydney Roosters Star confirms he is set to leave the club.

Joey Manu’s future has been decided, with the Roosters confirming the star back’s departure at the end of the season.

Manu’s contract runs out at the end of 2024 and, despite the Roosters’ best efforts to retain him, the Kiwi won’t be at the club next year.

here will Joey Manu play in 2025?

The Roosters have confirmed Manu has signed a deal with Japanese rugby side, Toyota Verblitz.

Former All Blacks coach Steve Hansen is the club’s director of rugby, while Beauden Barrett and Aaron Smith currently ply their trade there.

It had previously been reported Manu could command a significantly higher salary in Japan than the Roosters could offer, with several other big-name stars all competing for a slice of the pie at the Bondi Junction-based club.

Manu spoke about his decision to depart the Roosters.

“I have cherished my time playing rugby league for the Roosters, so it’s been a tough decision to leave the club and NRL,” said Manu.

“I will always be grateful to wear the Roosters jersey and to everyone who has supported me and provided me with some incredible opportunities.

“While I’m excited to embrace the challenge of playing rugby in Japan, right now I am focused on finishing this year strongly and performing at my very best for the Roosters.”

Manu, 27, has played 164 first-grade games with the Roosters, winning two premierships and scoring 63 tries along the way.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson praised Manu’s openness throughout the process.

“Joey has been open about his desire to experience the challenge of living overseas with his young family, and of playing in a different environment, so while we are sad to see him go, we fully support him,” Robinson said.

“Joey will always be a Rooster. He is very clear on what he wants to achieve this season and we look forward to sharing the year ahead.”

At the time of writing, the Roosters sit ninth on the ladder, with a 3-3 record.
