Tsitsipas upset by Jarry in Italian Open quarter finals.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been stunned by Nicholas Jarry at the Italian Open, with the Chilean fighting back from a set down to win 3-6 7-5 6-4 to reach the semi-finals.

The Greek got off to a dominant start, displaying a lot of confidence in his shots during the first set.

He has no trouble with his serve, and was better from the return than his opponent.

In the fourth game, Tsitsipas seized his first break point opportunity to take a 3-1 lead.

The 21st seed held a long game against the top ranked Greek player in the sixth game, saving four break points against him, but it wasn’t of much help as the Chilean couldn’t pressure his opponent from the return.

Tsitsipas had a 75 per cent first serve percentage, winning 76 per cent of them, and faced no break points against him, ultimately taking the set 6-3.

But then the match took a turn, Tsitsipas began to struggle with Jarry’s speedy returns and the two maintained equality with the second set score at 5-5.

The Greek had his opponent on two break points but couldn’t capitalise and a couple of minutes later felt the pressure and saw the set lost 7-5.

In the third set, Tsitsipas kept better composure but the Chilean managed to stay alive and took a break.

The world No.8 took the break in the third game but quickly lost his service in the next.

Both managed their service games well until the final moments of the set.

The Greek was serving at 4-5 down, and Jarry showcased his best level dominating with the forehand, had several break opportunities, and finally, on his fourth match point, secured one of the most important victories of his career with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 triumph.

Jarry, who fought off 11 of 13 break points faced in the match, will next play American 14th seed Tommy Paul on Friday in his first ATP Masters 1000 semi-final.
