SHOCKING: 3 New departures for Badgers

The Wisconsin Badgers had themselves a week last week, landing commitments from guard Camren Hunter, forward Xavier Amos, and guard John Tonje via the transfer portal to complement their current roster.

It has been an offseason of turnover for the Badgers, who saw seven different players enter the transfer portal and hadn’t gotten a commitment to come their way until last week.

However, with the three new players on board, Wisconsin has begun to put together a competitive roster as they embrace the new-look Big Ten that will add USC, Washington, Oregon, and UCLA to the fold next season.

Were the Badgers worried about how their offseason was going?

“I knew it was a matter of time before [the commitments started coming],” head coach Greg Gard shared to the media at his Garding Against Cancer event last Friday. “There’s a lot of things that are in the works before anybody in the public finds out about them. So there were things already moving in the right direction.”

More importantly, Gard revealed that the Badgers are still looking in the transfer portal, even after landing their three targets, with the position presumably being a big.

“And I think we’re not done,” Gard said. “Still have one more position that I’d like to get some more help with [and] create more depth.

The Badgers do have one scholarship remaining, according to Gard, who noted that the team has gone back and forth in the past years between putting players on and off scholarships to account for the roster.

“We have one scholarship left,” Gard said. “You know, the guys that have been on scholarship have volleyed back and forth from walk-on status to scholarship status have varied through the years. So, we’re in a position now where we’re able to use one more.”

While the timing for their next addition may be in the air currently, due to finals across the nation, the Badgers are looking for the right fit to get one more player for next year’s team.

“Like I said, if we find the right fit, we’re in the mix with a few guys right now and trying to line up everything to. We’re all going through finals. Just like we’re starting finals, so are people at other schools.”

“So we’re trying to find the dates in the window. To get people here is now a little challenge for the next few days or so, but we’re trying to shoeboard things in.”
