Coventry have received a fee from Sporting worth £2.5 million which has reduced the size of this sell-on clause to 10 per cent.

Sporting have been able to do this as part of an agreement with the Championship side, initially paying €2 (£1.7) million, with a further €1 million (£840,000) being paid due to a performance-based clause.

Gyokeres was previously linked with a move away from Sporting earlier this year, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly interested.

However, it has since been claimed that he is likely to remain in Lisbon beyond the summer window, with a new contract even on the table following his positive performances.

A new contract has reportedly been offered to the striker, who bagged 29 league goals in his first campaign with the club (all stats from Fbref).

Viktor Gyokeres

Coventry will still receive up to 10 per cent of any future sale of Gyokeres, so this £2.5 million payout this summer may come as a welcome financial boost amid a lack of move for the player this window.

Coventry’s 2024 summer business so far

Mark Robins has already added fresh faces to his squad this summer in a bid to close the gap to the top teams in the division.

Jack Rudoni and Oliver Dovin have arrived from Huddersfield Town and Hammarby IF, with Luis Binks also completing a permanent move after his loan spell at the CBS Arena.

The Championship side have also seen a number of players depart since the end of the previous campaign, including Callum O’Hare and Liam Kelly.

Coventry have until 30 August to complete any remaining deals before the window shuts for the remainder of the calendar year.
