SHOCK: Giants Two Stars bids farewell to team as they are leaving for their dram teams.

The Giants have 2 players on the hot seat this upcoming season

As the New York Giants rapidly approach the start of training camp and involuntary workouts, several players find themselves battling not just for their positions but for their future with the team. Amid concerns over regression and contractual implications, Big Blue is faced with several critical decisions. However, there is still time for key individuals to show improvement and avoid potential negative outcome.

Daniel Jones: Quarterback on the Brink

No player is under more scrutiny this upcoming season than quarterback Daniel Jones. The 27-year-old is facing a staggering $47.8 million cap hit this year and a $41.6 million hit in 2025. The Giants have a potential exit in his contract next offseason, which could save them between $19 million to nearly $30 million by spreading out the cap hit over two seasons.

Jones is coming off a challenging season marked by a torn ACL, managing just two touchdown passes and six interceptions before his season ended prematurely in Week 9 against Las Vegas. Before the injury, he also missed four games due to a stinger in his neck. Despite these setbacks, the Giants have bolstered their offensive line and added prospect Malik Nabers to support him. This season could determine whether Jones secures his future as a starting quarterback in the NFL or transitions to a backup role after 2024.

With many teams having drafted quarterbacks recently, next year’s market for new signal-callers will be less competitive. The Giants might be more inclined to invest their future draft capital to move up and select a quarterback of their choice. Yet, keeping Jones remains problematic due to his substantial $58.6 million cap hit in 2026. Unless the Giants extend him or create void years to lower that salary hit, his long-term future with the team appears bleak.

Evan Neal: A Top Pick Struggling to Find His Footing

Another player facing a pivotal year is Evan Neal, the Giants’ former 7th overall pick from 2022. Neal only managed 460 snaps last year, during which he gave up 29 pressures and two sacks. The Giants have brought in Jermaine Eluemunor to compete at right tackle, indicating that Neal must significantly improve or potentially face a change in position.

Neal’s recovery from foot surgery this offseason has been slow, raising concerns about his readiness for training camp. The Giants are compelled to continue providing opportunities, given the high draft investment. However, at 23 years old, Neal has substantial progress to make before he can be considered a reliable starter.

At present, Eluemunor is projected to start at tackle unless Neal demonstrates remarkable development. The coming months will be crucial for these Giants players as they strive to secure their roles and contribute positively to the team’s success.
