SAD NEWS: Vegas Golden Knights confirms departure of top veteran…

Las Vegas Golden Knights play-by-play voice Dave Goucher not leaving for Bruins job

The Boston Bruins are currently searching for Jack Edwards’ heir apparent.

After being mystified by speech issues, the 67-year-old Edwards, who spent the last 19 seasons as the Bruins’ play-by-play voice, said it was time for his “dream job” to end.

A familiar name came up as the Bruins searched for Edwards’ successor. According to the Boston Globe’s Chad Finn, both NESN and the Bruins reached out to Dave Goucher, who has been the play-by-play voice of the Las Vegas Golden Knights since their inaugural season.

There’s a bit of history there, as he called Bruins games for the radio from 2000 to 17 before heading out to Sin City to head up the broadcast booth of the then-expansion team. So, while Goucher seemed like a logical choice, Finn shared some details about the situation:

3 best play-by-play teams in the NHL (and why Dave Goucher is part of one)

Goucher enjoys his job in Las Vegas, but he and his wife are New Englanders who still spend their summers in Rhode Island. He would be the ideal choice, and hopefully the Bruins and NESN will make him an offer worthy of his talents.

And Finn reported on Wednesday that Goucher will not be the Bruins’ choice to replace Edwards. After 17 years with the organization, he was flattered by their inquiries, but he doesn’t appear motivated to move what he’s helped build in Las Vegas.

Chatted with Dave Goucher this morning. Says he was flattered by the Bruins’ interest in him as Jack Edwards’s successor, but he is remaining with the Golden Knights.

With that, the Bruins will need to continue their search and find a new voice to capture the excitement of Bruins hockey and connect with the passionate Boston fanbase.
