Toronto’s two-time All-Star closer continues to struggle with elbow problems.

Jordan Romano, a Toronto Blue Jays reliever who was put to the IL earlier this month, has received a sad update. According to MLB.com, the Blue Jays have decided to rest the two-time All-Star due to elbow pain.

“After increasing his throwing distance to 120 feet, Romano developed elbow pain. The right-hander, who was slated to throw from the mound in Cleveland this weekend, will be sidelined for a few days while the Blue Jays seek more information, though an MRI is not planned.

Romano’s elbow wasn’t recovering as quickly as he’d planned, and tests revealed some inflammation in the elbow. The right-hander threw 120 feet on flat ground on Friday, but he felt some elbow stiffness afterward, so he will avoid pitching from a mound for the time being.

The Blue Jays will wait for clarity and determine Romano’s future moves over the next several days, although he will be prohibited from pitching during that time.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider discussed Romano’s position after he was placed on the IL earlier this month.

“There is no structural harm, only inflammation. “He’ll take a couple days off from throwing, and then we’ll take it from there,” Schneider explained.

“We don’t know much about the timeline yet. “We’ll see how he responds to treatment and medication,” Schneider added.

Schneider noted that Jordan Romano’s ailment is comparable to what kept him out at the start of the season. Through 15 games, Romano has eight saves and 13 strikeouts, with a 6.59 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.

Could the Blue Jays look to start a rebuild?

The Blue Jays have dropped five straight games and are sitting in the American League East cellar with a 35-41 record.

The Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr-led core has struggled for success over the past few years. The Blue Jays’ failure to advance beyond the Wild Card Round has led to trade rumors, particularly regarding Vladdy, who is not performing as well as he once did.

While it would be disappointing for the Blue Jays to move on from either of their two young stars, the franchise must eventually recognize that things aren’t functioning as they are. At the July 30 trade deadline, Toronto might receive a significant number of prospects in return for one or both of Bichette and Guererro Jr.

The Chicago Cubs are among the top likely destinations for Guererro Jr. before the deadline. Reports indicate that the two teams have discussed trading Vladimir Guerrero Jr., as confirmed by many sources.
