SAD NEWS: Sacramento Kings Star refuses contract extension says he wants leave

Sacramento Kings, Malik Monk Agree To Massive Contract

Kings' Rumored Plan to Shop 13th Pick Revealed

The Sacramento Kings have taken full advantage of a new rule in the NBA. Allowed to negotiate contracts with their own players, they have agreed to a deal to keep the Sixth Man of the Year runner-up, Malik Monk, with the franchise.

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Sacramento Kings and Malik Monk have agreed to a four-year, $78 million deal. The deal includes a player option, as the Kings were able to keep him without having him test the market.

This was a best-case scenario for the franchise, as the agreed-upon contract is the max they could have offered Monk. Coming off of a career season in which he averaged 15.4 points and 5.1 assists per game, the raise was certainly well earned.

Once the NBA’s moratorium ends on July 6th, Malik Monk intends to sign the contract. The deal was worked out by his representatives Jeff Schwartz and Marcus Monk of Excel Sports with Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair and assistant GM Wes Wilcox.

Knowing that Malik Monk is coming back will certainly make things easier for the front office this offseason. That is one less hole they will need to fill on the roster as the Kings look to get back into the playoff picture.

Despite winning only two fewer games in the 2023-24 campaign than in 2022-23, the team missed the playoffs. After finishing in third place last season, they finished ninth this season, resulting in a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on the road in the second NBA Play-In Tournament game.

Sacramento Kings, Malik Monk Agree To Massive Contract

A big reason that the Sacramento Kings were unable to get back into the postseason and win the play-in games was the absence of Malik Monk. He suffered a knee injury, leading to his final game of the season being on March 29th.
