MLB Pipeline highlighted Rainer as potentially the best pure hitter in his class, drawing comparisons to two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager, and projecting him to remain at shortstop.

In strategic moves to allocate resources, the Tigers also secured deals with second-round pick Owen Hall, a high school pitcher from Edmond North High School, Oklahoma, signing him for $1.75 million, slightly under his slot value of $1.893 million.
