SAD NEW: Red Sox veteran Arrested and pleaded guilty for rape of minors
Red Sox pitcher arrested in underage sex sting
Former top MLB prospect and Boston Red Sox pitcher Austin Maddox has been arrested in Florida for allegedly “trying to use the internet to sexually exploit children.”
This, according to Fox Sports, which cited the Jacksonville, Florida, sheriff’s office. Maddox was swept up in a five-day sting operation known as “Valiant Knights.” The sheriff’s office released a video of Maddox being taken down and arrested as he entered a home in which he allegedly believed he was meeting a 14-year-old girl for sex.
“Maddox resisted arrest until our canine got involved,” police said.
Maddox, 33, is facing four felony counts, including “traveling to meet a minor after using a computer to solicit a child.”
“In their minds they knew they were meeting minors and going to a specific location to have sexual intercourse with kids,” Sheriff T.K. Waters said of the 27 men busted in the operation.
Maddox is due in court on May 28.
Selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Maddox pitched in 13 games when he eventually made the big leagues during the 2017 season.
Former Red Sox SS learns extent of shoulder injury
Xander Bogaerts won’t be able to avoid the injured list after all.
The San Diego Padres second baseman suffered a fractured shoulder, the team announced. Bogaerts, according to San Diego Union Tribune’s Kevin Acee, plans to play again this season — perhaps late-summer — and will avoid surgery. There’s also no indication that he tore his labrum, but will receive more tests Wednesday.
Bogaerts dove for a ball in the third inning of the San Diego’s 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday that left the former Boston Red Sox shortstop in visible pain. He remained down briefly before a trainer came out to tend to him. Bogaerts got to his feet, but was doubled over favoring his left shoulder. After trying to move it around, Bogaerts left the game.
Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters after Monday’s game that Bogaerts had some range of motion and strength in his arm and that “the initial feedback is the best-case scenario.”
Bogaerts’ injury happened in similar fashion to that of Trevor Story’s, who underwent season-ending surgery after diving for a ball earlier this season. While it’s unclear if Bogaerts will have a similar outcome as Story, it’s still a blow to San Diego’s lineup.
The Padres signed Bogaerts to an 11-year, $280 million contract ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. It’s been a difficult start to the 2024 campaign for Bogaerts with just four home runs, 14 RBI and a .220 batting average.
