The 31-year-old lefty has spent the season in Triple-A thus far.

Before their game in Pittsburgh this afternoon, the Mets acquired left-handed relief pitcher Matt Gage from the Dodgers for cash. The 31-year-old has spent the entirety of the 2024 season in Triple-A to this point, and he has a 4.29 ERA and a 4.30 FIP in 21.0 innings at that level. The Mets are sending him to Triple-A Syracuse, at least for now.

Gage has some major league experience, having pitched for the Blue Jays in 2022 and the Astros in 2023. He’s only totaled 19.2 innings of work as a major league pitcher and has a 1.83 ERA and a 3.97 FIP in that time.

This isn’t Gage’s first stint in the Mets’ organization, either, as he spent the last chunk of the 2018 season in Double-A Binghamton after the Giants released him that July. Over the course of his minor league career, Gage has a 3.98 ERA, and like many pitchers, he started his career as a starter but eventually converted to full-time relief work. In his case, that transition came in the 2021 season.
