Mets’ David Stearns reveals area he wants to bolster at trade deadline

After a rough start to the season, the 41-41 Mets have spent the last week teetering the .500 mark and are currently 1.5 games back of an NL Wild Card spot. That means they can approach this month’s trade deadline like a team that’s looking to contend in October.

The Mets do have one area of need that has emerged as a glaring area of need in this first half of the season: the bullpen.

“Certainly, this is an area of the team we’re going to continue to monitor,” Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns told John Heyman of the New York Post in an article published Sunday.

The Mets’ bullpen struggles were on display in Saturday’s loss to the Astros, during which four arms were used out of the bullpen. That included Reed Garrett and Jake Diekman, both of whom pitched on consecutive days.
