JUST IN: Florida Panthers have parted ways with Defenseman.
Florida Panthers Defenseman Gets Revenge on Brooks Koepka With Two-Word, NSFW Message
The Florida Panthers won the first Stanley Cup in franchise history by defeating the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night.
The Panthers’ long-awaited title celebration took place on Sunday and featured a parade and a rally in brutal, stormy conditions in Fort Lauderdale. The poor weather didn’t stop tens of thousands of fans from sharing in the moment with the team.
At one point during the Panthers’ parade, select team members took time to address the sea of Florida fans in attendance. One player chosen to speak, defenseman Aaron Ekblad, had quite the message for a select Panthers superfan – professional golfer Brooks Koepka.
“F— you, Brooks Koepka,” Ekblad said while wearing a traffic cone on his head.
There’s quite a bit to unpack here.
First, many in the sports world may already know that Koepka has attended Panthers games for years. However, fans may not be aware of the “beef” he had with Ekblad near the end of the 2022-23 season.
Remember the traffic cone?
With 10 games left that season and with Florida’s playoff chances hanging in the balance, the Panthers dropped a heartbreaker to the New York Rangers to mark their third consecutive loss. Koepka, in attendance that night, was spotted in front of his suite yelling at Ekblad – holding, you guessed it, a similar orange traffic cone.
At the time, many fans assumed Koepka’s gesture was a shot at the Panthers defenseman.
According to TheHockeyNews.com, Koepka and Ekblad seemingly made up and have no hard feelings toward each other.
The Panthers, Ekblad included, apparently even shared a laugh about the whole situation last season.
