I won’t leave, I want to stay Rangers fc hero makes decisions on his future

Rangers recruitment programme has been ramped up in recent weeks with no fewer than three deals potentially close to completion.

Jefte has already been confirmed, Jose Cordoba is said to be on his way to sit his medical, Liam Kelly has reportedly agreed a Bosman move from Motherwell and Oscar Cortes is still at Auchenhowie even though the season is finished, he’s injured and he belongs to Lens.

One name that could join this list is Abdallah Sima who is heading off on holiday hoping that a return to Rangers can be agreed with Brighton.

Abdallah Sima is happy where he is at Rangers

The Senegal international has spoken in the past about how he feels about the club and his desire to stay.

Glasgow will have fond memories for Sima, even if on the pitch wasn’t always plain sailing.

The birth of his first child will mean that it will always feel like home and, even if he doesn’t come back to Ibrox in a playing capacity, it will always have a special place in his heart.

A content footballer is usually a productive one and so it has proven to be the case for Abdallah Sima, who has been talking about the chances of signing for Rangers on a permanent deal:

“It’s not up to me.

“I always say I feel at home here and I’m happy to be here. I’ve always loved to give everything for this shirt.

“As I say, this place feels like home and I feel everyone wants to stay in a place that feels like home, so we will see in the next few weeks.

“I think I can be proud of my season and happy with what I’ve contributed. I wanted to do more but of course I had a bad moment with my injury, which ruled me out for a long time. But I’m always looking forward and I’m not looking back.

“I really wanted to win the cup for the club, for my team-mates and I think we deserved to do that, to be honest. But it wasn’t enough and now we need to look forward to next season.”

Sima deal carries risk element Rangers can afford to take

Brighton paid in the region of £6m for Abdallah Sima and even though he is into the last year of his contract with the south coast side, they will want to see a similar fee in return.

Rangers are already said to be in ‘advanced talks’ with Adama Traore, who is every bit as fast as Sima, but for £3.5m.

One thing that Rangers have up their sleeve is that they are fully aware of the 6ft 2inch tall forward’s injury history.

Abdallah Sima of Rangers celebrates after scoring their team's first goal during a UEFA Europa League Group C Match between Real Betis and Rangers ...

He’s missed nearly 25 games this season and double that on a season long loan at Stoke City in 2021/22.

In his three years at Brighton, only this loan spell can be deemed a success and even then, he was injured for almost half the season.

With David Weir as their technical director, Nils Koppen might get lucky and land the sort of deal that makes it worthwhile for both sides.

A lower upfront fee with add ons fo for appearances and a sell-on percentage seem the most sensible options.

There is an element of risk with every transfer and with Sima, it is whether he can fully recover from the various muscle injuries he has suffered over the last few seasons.

If he has, and can play 50 games or more a season, £6m would be a bargain.
