The 21-year-old Holmes has established himself as one of the best wingman in the competition, averaging a career-high 23.2 disposals and 5.8 marks this season. “The interest was absolutely huge,” Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark said on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle. Fellow Herald Sun journalist Sam Landsberger said he believes Holmes’ re-signing will set off a “domino effect” of extensions at Geelong. “This was clearly their biggest priority ,” he said. Holmes infamously failed a fitness test on his hamstring back in grand final week of 2022, but Landsberger says any qualms over that have certainly been put to bed. “We thought he might have been a little bit bitter (after missing 2022 premiership), but he’s locked in.” 2022 All-Australian Tyson Stengle and former Pie Ollie Henry are likely to be two of the next priority re-signings for the Cats. It is a great reward for Holmes who has played 27 out of the past 29 games at the club. “Max has shown great progression since arriving at the club with his speed and running capacity some of his exciting attributes,” Geeelong general manager of football Mackie said. “He has a great attitude and commitment to his development and we can’t wait to see him continue to grow as a person and player. “He is a much-loved member both within our football program and by our members and supporters, so to have him running around in the hoops for the next four years is something we are all looking forward to.” Channel 9’s Tom Morris reported that Collingwood, the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn were among the clubs interested in securing Holmes’ signature. North Melbourne midfielder Luke Davies-Uniacke is set to come out of contract at the end of 2025 and Clark believes he will become the games “most sought-after player” next year. The former Dandenong Stingray will become a restricted free agent and Clark says St Kilda, Essendon and Adelaide are among the clubs who could “throw the kitchen sink” at the Roos jet. “He’s in no hurry to sign, look at North Melbourne’s direction,” Clark said on Midweek Tackle. Davies-Uniacke has won just 18 games throughout his 91-game career, as the Roos continue to search for answers. “Isn’t it smart to just hold the phone, see the direction of the football club because next year he’s going to have everyone after him.” Geelong cats newsLuke DaviesMax Holmes
