HEARTBREAKING: Worst Decision made by Cody Rhodes as he is…
Cody Rhodes Discusses Little-Known WrestleMania XL Moment: “That Will Stick With Me Forever”
Despite very few knowing about it until now, Cody Rhodes sees one particular moment from WrestleMania XL as the greatest of his career!
This past April, Cody Rhodes finally finished the story by ending Roman Reigns‘ historic Undisputed WWE Universal Championship reign. Despite The Bloodline interfering as usual, Rhodes received aid from Jey Uso and two legendary figures – John Cena and The Undertaker.
During a recent episode of Behind The Turnbuckle featuring Diamond Dallas Page, Rhodes made a surprise appearance and was asked about the greatest moment of his career. While the moment he named occurred at WrestleMania XL, it wasn’t the moment he defeated Reigns or even a moment many have heard about until now.
The American Nightmare explained that while he was getting onto to feet before the final sequence of the match, he briefly locked eyes with Cena who was watching the remainder of the match from ringside.
This little-known interaction is what Rhodes believes to be the greatest moment of his career as he learned from Cena for many years and felt honoured that one of his life mentors was part of this moment to prop him up.
I think it’s probably really easy for me to say WrestleMania 40 itself, both nights, but there’s a particular moment at WrestleMania 40 that will stick with me forever. It’s not the one-two-three necessarily as much as I was really a big under the learning tree and student of John [Cena]’s.
But I liked his model from a businessman as a babyface character in wrestling. More than that, I liked the model and the standard he set as a human being. As a good ambassador for wrestling. As an authentic ambassador. Our fans can smell when this is not authentic, and he just was the right person for that job.
We’re in the ring and Undertaker and Rock have now had their moment. John is off camera against the back wall watching the end of Roman and I. As we’re both coming up, I just got to make eye contact with John.
I don’t think I’ve ever learned anything more in my life than just the moment of eye contact with the captain, the leader, the dude. He’s out here to be part of this for me. Even now, it’s super touching. But having that moment with him, just a brief little contact with him, knowing where I’m about to turn around and what’s about to happen.
