EXCLUSIVE: West Brom Have agreed 4years contract with Aston Villa Star, Player keen on the move as medicals are imminent…
West Bromwich Albion are looking to bolster their attacking department this summer and are weighing up a move for a former Aston Villa forward, according to reports.
Andreas Weimann was recently part of the Austria national team squad that reached the knockout stages of the UEFA European Championship before being eliminated by Turkey in the last 16, although he made merely one appearance in the tournament, coming on as a late substitute in a 3-2 victory over The Netherlands. Nevertheless, his club career is very much up in the air.
The 32-year-old spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at The Hawthorns from Bristol City but failed to make much of an impact, scoring twice in just 13 appearances before returning to Ashton Gate. His deal with the Robins has since expired and Weimann is now on the free-agent market looking for a new home.
Nevertheless, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, West Bromwich Albion are still keen to bring Weimann back to the West Midlands despite his underwhelming loan stint but face stiff competition for his signature from Austrian champions Sturm Graz, who have just signed Sheffield Wednesday target Mika Biereth, and Italian side Udinese, the sister club of Watford – another one of Weimann’s former teams.
Despite being Austrian, the experienced centre-forward has never played professionally outside of England, having been with the likes of Aston Villa, Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bristol City and most recently the Baggies. Having spent the majority of his career in the Midlands, perhaps a permanent move to West Brom is ideal for his career right now.
