EXCLUSIVE: Leeds United have reached a E51m agreement to sign Dutch striker.
Leeds United want to sign Feyenoord hitman Santiago Gimenez this summer in a sensational transfer, according to TV Azteca.
Writing on their website (31 May), the news outlet report that the Mexico international has decided he wants to move to the Premier League after hitting 51 goals in his two seasons in the Eredivisie.
But Leeds have been mentioned as an interested party in the race for his signature alongside Tottenham, Liverpool and newly-promoted Southampton as he eyes a move to England over Spain’s La Liga.
Leeds United to sign Santiago Gimenez?
There’s ambition and there’s insanity, and this transfer rumour will surely fall into the latter because of his quality and the competition for his signature.
Gimenez is an international striker who has been one of the most in-form strikers over the last two seasons, with his goalscoring described as “unbelievable” by journalist Manuel Veth.
Some reports earlier in the season suggested that Feyenoord could be looking for as much as £80million to let him leave, and that’s just completely out of the question for the Whites with them being in the Championship.
It’s absolutely possible that the club were keeping an eye on him in case they earned promotion, especially if he really has decided that he wants to move to England.
However, this deal was killed the moment the final whistle blew at Wembley and Leeds fans should probably not get their hopes up in any way, shape or form about signing the 23-year-old. It’s just not going to happen.
In other Leeds news, the club want to sign this Chelsea defender on a season-long loan.
