DONE DEAL: Tigers complete the signing of top talent, Deal done and dusted.

The Detroit Tigers have signed catcher Stephen Scott to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Double-A Erie.

Scott, 26, is one of two catchers listed on the Seawolves’ Opening Day roster. The other is Eliezer Alfonzo, who was in big-league camp with the Tigers this month.

But the Red Sox released him at the end of spring training and he quickly signed on with the Tigers.

Scott also has experience at first base and the outfield, although it appears his primary role for the moment will be behind the plate.

After strong spring, Jack Flaherty makes Tigers debut on Sunday.

Here’s hoping Jack Flaherty’s first game as a Detroit Tiger goes better than Kenta Maeda’s debut.

Or better than his last trip to Guaranteed Rate Field.

But he didn’t make it out of the fourth inning against the White Sox, giving up seven runs (only three earned) on six hits.

“I was in a really good stretch and it was just kind of a weird game,” he said.
He’ll get another chance in the series finale at 2:10 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday as the Tigers try to complete a season-opening three-game sweep of the White Sox.
Flaherty signed a one-year deal worth $14 million with the Tigers last December.

Flaherty’s first spring with the Tigers went exactly as he had hoped. He struck out 26 and walked just four across 18 1/3 very solid innings.

“My springs usually suck. They’re not good,” Flaherty deadpanned. “It’s not that I don’t put in the work, it’s just for whatever reason you’re going in there to work on some stuff and you come away frustrated because it’s a balance of trying to work on stuff but also getting the things right that you need to get right.

“So I felt like this spring was probably the best I was able to (balance) between working on stuff and repeating the things that I did well in the offseason. It was nice to come away in a good place.”
