Former Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Geron Christian has signed with the Tennessee Titans.
Geron Christian has signed a free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans. Christian started the final nine games of the 2023 season for the Cleveland Browns.
Christian reunites with offensive line coach Bill Callahan. Callahan was the offensive line coach with the Browns when Christian was signed mid-year. Callahan was with the team now known as the Washington Commanders when Christian was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Christian was signed by the Browns when they were in the midst of an emergency at offensive tackle. Jack Conklin went out for the season in week one, which put rookie Dawand Jones onto the field at right tackle. Jedrick Wills suffered a knee injury that knocked him out of the game against the Arizona Cardinals in week eight. James Hudson III stepped in at left tackle to finish that game.
Then in practice the next week, Dawand Jones suffered a torn MCL, which ended his season. Hudson had to go to right tackle, which put Christian in the lineup left tackle. His first start for the Browns was on the road in a pivotal divisional matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. With their fourth and fifth tackles, the Browns were able to beat the Ravens on the road 33-31, a game many players have cited as a major turning point in the season. They felt that was the game that truly proved just how good they could be. Unfortunately, the following day, Watson found out he had a broken bone in his shoulder which put him out for the rest of the year.
The next week with Christian and Hudson protecting rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson in his second NFL start and were able to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 13-10. DTR was able to lead the game winning drive, going 4-for-4 passing. That set up Dustin Hopkins to kick the game winning field goal.
Two games later, Joe Flacco was in the lineup and Christian protected him for the rest of the season. It wasn’t pretty, but the Browns found a way to get the job done. Christian offered next to nothing as a run blocker, but he was enough in pass protection, allowing the Browns to cruise into the postseason with an 11-6 record.
The wildcard game against the Houston Texans would expose the Browns weaknesses at tackle and limit what their offense was able to do. They couldn’t run the ball, so Flacco was throwing it all over the field. And while the offense was able to keep pace for a half, back to back interceptions returned for touchdowns would put the game out of reach.
