Breaking: Twins Officially Select Reliever Diego Castillo
The Minnesota Twins have officially selected the contract of relief pitcher Diego Castillo, bolstering their bullpen a day after optioning Kody Funderburk to Triple-A St. Paul.
Castillo has shown strong performance for the Saints this season, recording a 2.50 ERA over 18 innings. He has amassed 22 strikeouts, six walks, and five saves while limiting opponents to a .194 batting average.
The 30-year-old reliever joined the Twins organization in late March after spending the previous three years with the Seattle Mariners. Prior to his stint in Seattle, Castillo was a key member of the Tampa Bay Rays bullpen.
Throughout his career, Castillo has maintained a solid 3.22 ERA across 268.1 innings, with 304 strikeouts, 101 walks, and a .200 batting average against.
To accommodate Castillo on the 40-man roster, reliever Justin Topa was moved to the 60-day injured list as he continues to recover from left patellar tendinitis.
The Twins have been on a winning streak, taking five of their last six games, and are currently in the midst of a four-game series against the Kansas City Royals at Target Field.
