Devastating moment: West Brom Star Darnell Anthony Furlong gets heartbreaking news while on vacation as his super agent pass away at 52…
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Okay Yokuslu has been linked with a move to Turkish giants Besiktas, according to reports in Turkey.
The defensive midfielder had a successful 2023/24 campaign, helping his team secure a play-off spot in the Championship. Yokuslu played 48 games for the club, scoring his only goal in a 4-1 trouncing of Huddersfield Town. His consistency has reportedly caught the eye of Besiktas, as has been reported by Sports Digitale, via Birmingham World, and the player could be available for a cut price this summer.
Yokuslu emerged from the youth setup at Altay in Turkey, eventually moving to Kayserispor after spending two years at his boyhood club. Following three seasons at Kayserispor, the midfielder transferred to another Turkish team, Trabzonspor, before making his first international transfer to Celta Vigo.
The Turkey international spent three of his four contracted years in Spain, making 81 appearances for the club. The 30-year-old was sent out on successive loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Getafe in his final year at the club. The midfielder permanently transferred to West Brom in the summer of 2022.
Yokuslu has had two successful years at the Midlands club, being the first name on the team sheet most weeks. However, West Brom may now have to prepare for life without the defensive-minded player.
Besiktas had a disappointing campaign last year, only finishing sixth in the Super Lig. In addition to the signings of Rafa Silva and former Arsenal man Gabriel Paulista, the club have already signed up Al Musrati, who plays in a similar position to Yokuslu.
Yokuslu will be the Baggies’ second sale of the summer, following Zac Ashworth’s move to Blackpool. Nevertheless, Carlos Corberan’s side have also released two players who play in similar positions to Yokuslu, Nathaniel Chalobah and Yann M’Vila. So, it seems that a new central defensive midfielder will be the top priority for the head coach this summer.
