DEAL DONE: Angeles Rams completes the signing of a top veteran in blockbuster trade
Los Angeles Rams Re-sign Tutu Atwell
The Los Angeles Rams have an interesting decision this next offseason when it comes to Tutu Atwell‘s contract. The 57th pick of the 2021 draft, Atwell has had a slow start to his career but has shown flashes here and there. With the Rams’ investments in the WR position, is it worth it for them to re-sign him?
Reasons The Los Angeles Rams Should Re-sign Tutu Atwell
Production Last Season
When given the WR2 role, Atwell showed flashes of being a solid player the first couple weeks of the season. He averaged 82 yards in the first three weeks of the year as the second option beside Puka Nacua, which is solid for a second option. We also saw last season his ability to stretch the field with many 30+ yard catches.
Price
Due to the nature of his career so far, I could see Tutu not asking for much money. That being said if he re-signs on a team-friendly deal, I wouldn’t mind another year for a prove-it deal to show that he can be a consistent contributor in the passing game.
Reasons To Let Tutu Atwell Walk
Investment In The Position
With significant investment in the position during the past few years and in the draft, it wouldn’t be wise to spend more on Tutu. Especially when Demarcus Robinson outplayed him in the latter half of the year which led to another contract for Robinson with the team. Tutu doesn’t have a solid place on the depth chart.
Inconsistency And Injuries
Atwell hasn’t been consistent at any point of his career so far and his game log will show the boom or bust nature of his play. He’ll have a deep shot every now and again, but we haven’t seen consistent production every game of the year.
Special Teams Lacking
When he was drafted many thought he’d be the new kick returner, yet he only had 15 attempts his rookie year and hasn’t had a return since. Due to his size, health is a concern on special teams so using him as a returner as well wouldn’t be a good idea.
