Indianapolis Colts Projected To Land Key Offensive Playmaker
With the 2024 NFL season right around the corner, the Indianapolis Colts are a relatively unknown team. No one knows what to expect from them.
Anthony Richardson is entering his second NFL season after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in his rookie year. He could be a future superstar, but he also has a lot of work to do to get there.
Chris Ballard went out and made a big move in free agency, re-signing star wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to a lucrative long-term contract. He then brought in Adonai Mitchell in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Both of those moves were crucial for Richardson’s future success. While the offense looks better, there is still room for improvement.
ESPN’s Matt Miller has released a very early 2025 NFL mock draft. In that mock draft, Miller had the Colts taking Michigan tight end Colston Loveland.
“Who could resist the temptation to give Anthony Richardson more playmakers? Tight end remains one of the team’s few offensive question marks, and Loveland will be a top-10 player on my preseason board thanks to his ability as a receiver and expert run blocking. He caught 45 passes for four scores in the run-heavy Michigan offense last season, and the 6-5 junior has elite agility and speed in the open field as a receiving option.”
Loveland certainly looks the part of a potential star in the NFL. The Indianapolis Colts could use an upgrade at tight end, which makes the fit seem perfect.
During the 2023 college football season with Michigan, Loveland was a huge part of the team’s National Championship run. He ended up catching 45 passes for 649 yards and four touchdowns.
Standing in at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, Loveland would give Richardson a big target with great catching ability. Those two things combined would make him a perfect fit in Shane Steichen’s offense.
The future is relatively murky for the Indianapolis Colts right now. They have the potential to be a contender in the near future, but more work is needed.
Ballard will have his work cut out for him to build a championship contender. However, with the right moves over the next couple of years and development from Richardson, the opportunity is there.
