BREAKING: Redskin Star sends farewell message to team as he is set to…

Native American group calls for Washington Commanders to reinstate ‘Redskins’ name.

A Native American group says they want to bring back the Washington Redskins name to honor the history of Native Americans.

Native American Guardians Association Midwest Regional Adviser Bill Deikman joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat Thursday to discuss.

“The reason we are coming forward now is there’s new ownership, which therefore means new opportunity,” he said. “The name was taken away under false pretense and a lot of inaccuracies claiming racism and whatnot.”

The Redskins dropped the name in 2020 after claims of racism and the Native American Guardians Association is pushing the brand back.

An online petition is asking the Washington commanders to go back to that original team name and honor that. It currently has nearly 150,000 signatures and counting.

“The term Redskin is actually a status symbol of a warrior. Nothing else. It has nothing to do with ethnicity,” Deikman said. “It’s about warriors who were allowed to participate in the blood moon ceremony and paint their skin red for battle. Our fight song even says, “Braves on the warpath.”
