Breaking News: ‘All Draft pick I dislike’ Phil Simms Reaffirms his obsession’s on Patriots Draft picks

Phil Simms Says He ‘Hated’ 1 Patriots Draft Pick

The New England Patriots made headlines by drafting North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft to be the team’s next franchise QB.

Most fans and media members agreed it was the right pick, but another QB the team selected later on drew the ire of some, with Phil Simms being atop the list.

The Patriots drafted project quarterback Joe Milton out of Tennessee in the sixth round, and Simms said “I hated it” when discussing the pick, adding that he is big and much more polished than he expected, but that he specifically hated the pick for Drake Maye.

Will Drake Maye Get Drafted To Patriots? Latest Rumors Suggests So

Simms wasn’t knocking Milton as a prospect but mentioned how tough it is to be “the guy” and take over a team, and that having another rookie coming in at the same time as Maye could send mixed signals and make it difficult for Maye to do his job to the best of his abilities.

Milton has wowed fans with his massive arm for years but is still a project quarterback with a lot to work on, which is why he slid to the sixth round.

Last season was Milton’s first as a full-time starter after spending six years in college, and he was impressive with 20 passing touchdowns and five interceptions while adding seven more rushing TDs on the ground.

Simms makes a great point here, but it’s no secret that this is Maye’s team and Milton’s status as a long-term project shouldn’t impact him at all.

Jerod Mayo Gets Honest About Talks With No. 3 Pick

The New England Patriots made a potentially franchise-altering decision this offseason.

After several rumors and comments about the team wanting to move on from Bill Belichick, the noise came to fruition.

Belichick left his long-time post as head coach, giving an opportunity for former player Jerod Mayo to step in, hoping to bring fresh eyes and perspective to this team.

The Patriots have struggled to find consistency since Tom Brady’s departure, especially at the quarterback position, which has caused a lot of stress and trepidation within the organization.

FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS - DECEMBER 17: New England Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo looks on from the sideline next to head coach Bill Belichik during the game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium on December 17, 2023 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

This could have been a reason for Belichick’s departure, but regardless of the reasoning, the Patriots are moving forward. It’s Mayo’s time now, and with the team’s most recent draft pick in mind, he might be able to start on the right foot.

While fans now know that the Patriots had their eyes set on Drake Maye, Mayo recently peeled back the curtain on the Rich Eisen Show, highlighting what other teams in the league tried to do to secure this pick.

“Honestly, it was kinda anticlimactic. I know everyone was like ‘monumental packages [were out there]’, but we felt comfortable at three and got our guy, and honestly didn’t want to move,” Mayo said.

According to Mayo’s accounts, there wasn’t as heavy of a pursuit for the No. 3 pick as was initially reported. It sounds like the team received some offers, but with Maye presenting as the type of player that could be a franchise star for the foreseeable future, the Patriots didn’t want to risk trading back.
