Breaking: Jags Closing In On Deal To Sign $97 Million Ex-Pro Bowler In Proposed Blockbuster Deal
Marshon Lattimore, a former Pro Bowl cornerback for the New Orleans Saints, could be traded shortly. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell predicts that Lattimore will join the Jacksonville Jaguars as his first trade contender. He contends that age, injury history, and price will constrain Lattimore’s trading market more than anyone anticipates. This may be the case, but he had a strong season last year, tallying 39 tackles and one interception.
He isn’t the same player he once was, but he’s valuable enough for a team to give up something to get him. According to the same source, the Jaguars may get him for a fourth-round pick. However, Lattimore’s arrival in Jacksonville would simply mean rejoining with former Saints assistant Ryan Nielsen. This move would improve the Jaguars’ secondary defense, which struggled last season after losing veteran Darious Williams.
The Saints restructured Lattimore’s deal in a way that minimizes his cap hit in 2024. This should give the Ohio State product the freedom to go on. However, acquiring Lattimore is a gamble for any team, given that he has missed 17 games over the last two seasons. He’s still performing at a high level despite just allowing one touchdown and fewer than 12.0 yards per reception during that time.
Lattimore has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the entire offseason. If he can stay healthy, the Jaguars won’t be the only team interested in his services. However, Jacksonville isn’t the only team that’s in the mix for the veteran for a trade. It’ll be interesting to see what the Saints do next month after the post-June 1 cuts and if they’re willing to say goodbye to Lattimore.
Blockbuster Trade May Come Soon For Former Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore
Houston Texans Connected To Him As Well
The Texans are the next team after the Jaguars who could be interested in Lattimore. The Ohio State product has sparked interest in a potential deal by liking a post. It wasn’t a broad post, but one that suggests he’d like to work with C.J. Stroud and the Texans. Do not expect this deal to take place this month; instead, teams will wait until the first of the month.
This deal would likely make more sense for Lattimore at this juncture in his career. He isn’t getting any younger, so any chance to participate in a potential Super Bowl run would be intriguing to him. The Saints don’t seem like a viable spot for him to get his ring. Nobody should be surprised if he asks for his trade this summer.
Houston is already going nuts after trading for Stefon Diggs to help bolster their offense. They could replicate the same decision when it comes to helping their secondary. Lattimore is still one of the best corners in the league so it’s no secret there will be more interested teams. Here are some of the team trade fits that make sense for Lattimore.
