BIG SETBACK: 3 Cincinnati players have entered the transfer portal.
BREAKING: Michigan State adds Cincinnati Edge Ty Gillison from transfer portal
Michigan State picks up a commitment from former Cincinnati Edge, Tyler Gillison
Michigan State remains active in the transfer portal, as they look to expand and improve their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Earlier today, former Cincinnati Bearcat Edge, Tyler Gillison announced that he was committing to Michigan State.
Gillison (6-foot-4, 245-pounds) is the younger brother of former Michigan State tight end Trenton Gillison and grew up around the football program and had deep knowledge and respect for what it means to be a Spartan football player.
As a redshirt freshman last season, Gillison was able to find his way onto the field for the Bearcats in a key reserve role at linebacker and defensive end. He finished the season with 15 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Michigan State envisions Gillison to play their stand-up edge position, which is a hybrid defensive end that they can utilize in various ways.
It is likely that Gillison will come in as a reserve role to start out, but he should be able to find himself in the playing rotation for the Spartans this fall.
He has three years of eligibility remaining. Gillison was a three-star defensive end prospect out of Pickerington Central High School in Ohio and was in the 2022 class.
Michigan State has added Indiana edge Anthony Jones, running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams from UMass, cornerback Ed Woods from Arizona State, and Andrew Dennis, a true freshman offensive tackle from Illinois in the spring transfer portal window so far.
Look for Michigan State to remain active adding players to the defensive line from the transfer portal.
