Saquon Barkley left the New York Giants for the Philadelphia Eagles, signing a three-year, $37.75 million deal last week. For Giants fans, it’s going to be tough to see their former star running back playing for one of their most heated rivals. For Eagles fans, they’re excited to add another explosive player to their stacked offense. Philadelphia had fans all fired up on Monday when they released the first photo of Barkley with his new Jersey. The running back will be wearing No. 26, which he wore with the Giants and in college at Penn State.

We love bragging rights in sports, and the Eagles have a few they can hang over the greatest interior defensive lineman of a generation.

What a ballot! Five years from now, after we have partied like it’s 2029, we’ll at some point, discuss the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot. Gosh… Just think of some of the names… Two Philadelphia Eagles are on the list. And, both had better be first ballots!

Those names though. Jason Kelce… Fletcher Cox… Matthew Slater is definitely getting in. That’s a fact. Recently, the great Aaron Donald has called it a career as well. Following his announcement that he’d ride off into the sunset, thoughts crossed my mind of that final stop he authored in Super Bowl LVI, and then, it hit me. I don’t remember any such occurrences versus the Birds.

I looked… I studied… I cheated and looked up his numbers on Pro Football Reference, and that’s when it hit me.

Aaron Donald, in five regular-season games versus the Philadelphia Eagles, never registered a single sack.

When we look back on the career of Aaron Donald, one that will no doubt land him in Canton, certain things will stand out to us. He was voted onto the Pro Bowl roster in each of his ten NFL seasons. He was voted First-team All-Pro eight times (2015–2021, 2023). Heck, he’s a huge part of why the same honor was only given to Fletcher Cox once in 2018.

No worries… Fletch did rack up three Second-Team All-Pro nods (2014, 2015, 2017).

Donald’s career has one blemish though. He registered a sack versus every NFL team he lined up across from except for two. During his decade of dominance, he faced Philly on five different occasions, and Jeff Stoutland’s guys were able to keep him in check. The only other team to give him the goose egg was an AFC squad he only played twice, the New York Jets.

Let that sink in for a second. That’s amazing.

We wouldn’t be so ignorant as to try and take anything away from the great Aaron Donald. Again, he’s one of the best to ever play this game. He is also a future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, but bragging rights are everything in sports.

Bragging rights are why Michigan and Ohio State fans wait 365 days for The Game. They’re why rivalries exist. They’re why we write stories that read like these.

When it’s all said and done, Aaron Donald will forever be the greatest interior lineman of a generation. Still, when it comes to his five career games versus the Philadelphia Eagles, the Birds have a few bragging rights of their own.
