Pigeon Forge Police identifies man who died after a crash during Rod Run event

The Pigeon Forge Police Department said the man hit an open car door while riding a scooter along the Parkway.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — UPDATE (April 22): The Pigeon Forge Police Department said Jeremy Hanes Jr., 31, from Charlestown, Indiana, died after a crash on Thursday during Rod Run.

The police department said a truck had stopped at a red light and a passenger opened the door. It said Hanes Jr. was driving north on the Parkway on an electric scooter, in the area between the white line and the sidewalk, before crashing into the door.

It said he fell from the electric scooter and was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he died from his injuries on Friday.

One man is dead after an incident on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge.

This happened Thursday night around 11:30. The man died Friday afternoon.

According to Police Chief Richard Catlett, this death was related to Rod Run.

A man was riding along the white line and the sidewalk along the Parkway near the Jake Thomas Road intersection. Someone in a vehicle opened their door, and the man hit it.

Police say they are still investigating.
