Good News: David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ Is Back

David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ Is Back

David Bowie is one gone-too-soon artist who will never fully disappear, as his music is still touching people to this day. The superstar changed the sound—and certainly the look—of rock decades ago, as he loved to play with costumes, makeup, and even alter egos. One of the monikers he created during his lifetime is now back on the music charts in the nation that introduced the one-of-a-kind soul to the world.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust reappears on several charts in the United Kingdom this week. The concept album loosely discusses the made-up character Ziggy Stardust, who allowed Bowie to try new things and be rather daring with his bisexual, alien-like persona.

The full-length isn’t a massive bestseller again, but it did perform well enough in the past tracking period to land on a pair of tallies in the U.K. The two rankings the project appears on this week are both focused solely on purchases, and it is noteworthy that The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust is still moving enough units in any given frame to appear on any chart.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust re-enters the Official Physical Albums tally at No. 93 this frame. It settles three rungs lower on the Official Albums Sales ranking, which looks at purchases of all albums, whether they be on a physical medium or digital.

In the past, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardusthas climbed to No. 5 on both of those lists, which remains its all-time peak. The set has already racked up several hundred stays on the two charts.

Bowie released The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust in 1972, and it cemented him as not just a rock star, but one of the most inventive and creative people in the music industry. While some didn’t understand the project at the time—and there were even those who felt it was offensive—the album has gone down in history as one of the most important ever.

As The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust returns to two charts, another one of Bowie’s albums can be found on just as many rankings in the U.K. Interestingly, his Legacy greatest hits compilation appears on two lists—but not the same ones that see The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust bounce back. Legacy slips a few spaces on both the Official Albums Streaming and the main albums tally this time around.
