Lewis Hamilton’s United States Grand Prix came to an abrupt end on Lap 3 after he spun out and got stuck in the gravel trap at Turn 19 ¹ ² ³ ⁴. This rare mistake from Hamilton marked his first retirement from a race since the Australian Grand Prix in March ¹.
Hamilton had made a great start, jumping from 17th to 12th place in just two laps, but his progress was cut short ¹ ². “The car started bouncing on the way in, and then it just lost all load of the rear and went around on me,” Hamilton explained after the incident ¹.
