First stepping on stage during the 1960s, Elton John showcased not only his colorful persona but also his amazing talent behind a mic. Throughout his time in the music industry, John simply dominated the charts and airwaves as he sold over 300 million albums and won countless awards. He even gained entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. An icon in the music industry, John never turned away from telling stories of the past. Recently, the singer recalled his time with John Lennon and how they spent the night doing drugs.
Although struggling with addiction over the years, John eventually found sobriety. Loving his life away from drugs and alcohol, the singer didn’t seem to mind discussing his time with Lennon. In the new documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, the icon explained how he and Lennon had a great deal of “c*ke” coming out of their noses in a New York City Hotel.
While enjoying their time in the room, John admitted the evening took a turn when he heard a knock on the door. Believing it was the police, the singer spent a great deal of time trying to stay quiet. Eventually making his way to the door, John said, “It took me about five minutes to walk across to the peephole, and I saw it was Andy Warhol. And I went to John, ‘Andy,’ and John went, ‘No way!’ So he kept ringing the bell.”
Knowing how much Warhol loved to capture moments with his camera, John decided to keep the evening between just him and Lennon. “That was the fun part of c*caine.”
Lennon appeared to turn his life around when he found love with Yoko Ono. Although their love was turbulent at times, John enjoyed seeing Lennon happy. he kind“They did get back together and they had Sean [Lennon]. He became in love again, and so his wildness, of stopped the drugs, stopped the craziness. I was happy for him.”
While thrilled for Lennon, John still loved to party. He insisted it “didn’t stop my craziness.”
