Peter Grant’s daughter signs deal to sell 10% of Led Zeppelin’s music catalogue

Helen Grant, the daughter of late Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant, has signed a lucrative deal to sell 10% of the band’s distinguished back catalogue.

Back in July 2023, Helen Grant told The Times she was planning to sell her 10% stake in Led Zeppelin’s music and she had instructed London-based commercial law firm New Media Law to manage the sale.

Peter Grant owned a 20% stake of the rights of Led Zeppelin’s music and this was split equally between his two children, Helen and Warren, upon his death aged 60 in November 1995.

Ian Penman, a founding partner of New Media Law representing Helen Grant, has now publicly confirmed to LedZepNews that a deal has been reached for Grant’s stake.

“Helen’s shares are currently under binding/signed offer,” Penman said. “In due course, we will be making an announcement about the deal.”

Penman is yet to reveal the amount of the transaction and who exactly has bought the stake in Led Zeppelin’s formidable musical arsenal.

Music mogul Irzing Azoff has ruled himself out of the sale, denying he’s in conversation with Grant’s legal team.

LedZepNews reported in September 2023 that an offer of £8.5 million had been made for the 10%, however this hasn’t been confirmed by Penman.

The website notes: ‘The deal could result in an outsider owning a stake of Led Zeppelin’s music for the first time, potentially pressuring the surviving band members to release more material to increase the royalties received by the buyer.’

In reference to her “coming windfall”, Helen Grant told The Times last year: “I’d much rather have Dad back, but I know I’m bloody lucky.”

Grant also said she’d like to use some of the money from the sale to “showcase” her dad’s fabled career.

“I’m hoping (the sale of the 10% stake) will allow me to showcase Dad again in the way he should be presented,” Grant said.

“A film is being talked about. I never had a chance to do it before — I’ve got five bloody kids, for God’s sake — but I’m at that stage in life where I’m thinking we could do something great with Dad’s legacy.”
